Rs 2,000 notes to remain legal

In 2018-2019, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ceased the printing of ₹2,000 banknotes. Recently, on Friday, the RBI made the decision to withdraw ₹2,000 currency notes from circulation. As part of this move, the central bank has instructed banks to offer deposit and exchange services for ₹2,000 notes until September 30, 2023.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that the Rs 2000 currency note will continue to be accepted as legal tender beyond September 30th. In an effort to ensure a smooth transition, the RBI believes that a four-month period is sufficient for individuals to exchange their notes at banks. It is anticipated that the majority of Rs 2000 notes currently in circulation will be returned to banks within the specified timeframe. Therefore, it is important for the public to remain calm as this is a routine procedure implemented by the RBI, and there is no need to panic.
